The NFL announced yesterday a scheduling change for Week 16 on Saturday, December 24. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New Orleans Saints will be played on Saturday at 4:25 PM ET instead of 1:00 PM ET. The NFL announced additional flex scheduling changes, this time for week 15 (Sunday, December 18). The Cowboys were originally going to host the Bucs at 1:00 PM ET, but the game will now take place that evening beginning at 8:30 PM ET. Alternatively, the game between the Steelers and Bengals will now be played starting at 1:00 PM ET instead of 8:30 PM ET. This month’s calendar showcases vintage football-related games and gifts a person might have received for Christmas years ago. In fact, I have fond memories of pretty much every item shown. My cousin Chris, for example, received the Mattel Talking Football game for Christmas one year. We played it for hours. The player on offense would choose a small phonograph record that corresponded with an offensive play, insert the record into a little player, and then hand it to the defensive player. The defensive player, unaware of which specific record the offensive player chose, rotated the record to select a defensive play. When the record was played, an announcer declared the results of the play in an exciting radio broadcast style. I’m certain my cousin was eventually able to somehow tell the records apart, because his defense became suspiciously relentless, but it was fun nonetheless. It was a high-tech game for its day and I just ate it up.
