Top 25 Player Jerseys 2014
I went to the Vikings-Redskins game prior to the Vikes’ bye week. It was a great time. Although the temps were cool and the winds a bit chilly, the sun shone brightly, and we were sheltered against a concrete wall, warm and cozy, in the top row of the lower section. The game itself was terrific too with the lead changing hands six times before my Vikings finally came out on top 19-16.
One thing that stuck in my mind as I looked out across a sea of purple jerseys was the lack of Adrian Peterson jerseys. If I had looked over the stands a season earlier, at least half the jerseys would have been Peterson’s. Of course I know the reason for the dearth of number 28 is directly related to Peterson’s recent legal problems, but when NFLShop.com released its list of top 25 selling player jerseys last week, I wondered what other players saw changes in the popularity of their jerseys.
Below is a table that summarizes what I discovered. The ‘CHANGE’ column indicates how many spots a player has moved up or down from last year. ‘New’ indicates players that did not make the top 25 last season, but made it this season. A second table follows the first with a list of players that were on the top 25 list last season, but didn’t make the list this year – and my opinion for the reason.
