Three years ago on this date – March 15, 2013 – I published my first Football Weblog post.  To mark the anniversary, I’ve created a short video.  For those of you that frequent Football Weblog, the video is a celebration.  I trust the images will put a smile on your face as you remember the diverse, interesting, and enjoyable football-related topics that have been covered.  If you’re a newcomer, I hope the video gives you an entertaining idea of the content Football Weblog provides and inspires you to come back for more.  My biggest wish is that you like the video as much as I enjoyed creating it.

The NFL has a system in place for teams to take a closer look at young athletes hoping to find their way into the league.  The first and biggest event is the Scouting Combine.  More than 300 prospects were invited to participate in this year’s Scouting Combine.  The NFL also hosts Regional Combines.  Regional Combines are held in various cities throughout the U.S. for players not invited to the main Scouting Combine.

Not just anyone can attend a Regional Combine.  Prospects are required to apply.  Only those that meet NFL eligibility rules, and establish that they are fit and qualified to compete, are invited to showcase their talents.

Recently I was browsing YouTube and stumbled across a 2013 NFL Regional Combines promo video.  I don’t know about you, but the video gives me chills.  It does a great job of putting you into a young athlete’s shoes.  If your dream is to play in the NFL, the Regional Combines may be your last good opportunity to convince someone to give you a chance.

Sea Gal Hope defeated the Broncos’ Christina by the narrowest of margins, 8-7, to capture the 2016 Clash of the Pro Bowl Cheerleaders championship.  This year’s entire tournament was marked by close matches, so it was only fitting that Hope garnered the victory by a single vote. The 2015-16 gridiron season continues to wind down.  This is the slowest time of the year when it comes to football.  Yet a glimmer of hope can already be seen.  The NFL Regional Combines are in full swing, and the 2016 NFL Player Draft is around the corner in April.  Yes, these are the dark days of football, but there’s still a pigskin pulse.  Hang in there.

One way to keep football on your mind is to display Football Weblog’s monthly calendar.  This month we celebrate field general Peyton Manning’s 4oth birthday (March 24th) and honor his Super Bowl 50 win over the Panthers.  The March calendar displays a colorful “snapshot in time” from 2014 that shows Manning tossing his 509th career touchdown pass — the pass that eclipsed Brett Favre for most TD passes ever.

Football Weblog’s calendar comes in two different formats. The first is designed to print on standard 8½ x 11 sheets of paper. The second is formatted for 11 x 17 paper. Select your preference from the links below.

It was a long, arduous journey, but we finally made it to the ‘Super Bowl’ of Football Weblog’s cheerleader tournament: The 2016 Clash of the Pro Bowl Cheerleaders Championship!

Representing the AFL is the Bronco’s Christina.  She advanced to the championship round with a 9-6 tally over the Jag’s Jessica.  The NFC representative is Hope from the Seahawks.  She slipped past the Buccaneer’s Cori by the slimmest of margins: 8-7. (Click HERE to see the tournament bracket.)

The pictures for the championship match are shown below. Select your favorite. The cheerleader that captures the most votes will be named the winner of Football Weblog’s 2016 Clash of the Pro Bowl Cheerleaders tournament. Polls will remain open through Sunday, February 28.

Good luck, Christina and Hope!

The 2016 Clash of the Pro Bowl Cheerleaders continues into round 4 — the NFL equivalent of the Conference Championships.  Winners advance to this tournament’s “Super Bowl” in their bid to claim the 2016 Championship Tiara.  (Click HERE to see the full bracket.)

There has never been a round in the history of this contest as close as the round just concluded.  From top to bottom, the winner in each match was determined by a hair’s breadth.  The anticipation, tension, and electricity moving forward is almost unbearable.

The pictures for the round four matches are shown below. Scroll down to vote for your favorite in each of the two bouts. The cheerleader that captures the most votes in each match advances to the championship round. Polls for round four will remain open through Sunday, February 21.

I tip my hat to Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos for their win over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50.  Though it was the final game of the NFL playoffs, the ‘Clash of the Pro Bowl Cheerleaders’ tournament is still in full swing.  This week the field narrows to the “Elite Eight”, but only one gal will survive the mayhem to advance to the title bout and claim the 2016 championship tiara. (Click HERE to see the full bracket.)

The pictures for the round three matches are shown below. Scroll down to vote for your favorite in each of the four bouts. The cheerleader that garners the most votes in each match advances to the next round. Polls for round three will remain open through Sunday, February 14.

As the Grail Knight said to Indiana Jones, “You must choose, but choose wisely”.

The NFL Conference Championships are in the books and the final game of the season is set:  It will be the Denver Broncos taking on the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50.  As I write this, the sportsbooks favor the Panthers with the betting line ranging from 4½ to 6 points, but the only one that knows the actual outcome of the game for sure is Biff Tannen.

This month’s football calendar features an eye-pleasing panoramic view of Levi’s Stadium, home of Super Bowl 50.  It will be a great venue for America’s newest, albeit unofficial, national holiday.

Welcome to round one of Football Weblog’s 3rd Annual Clash of the Pro Bowl Cheerleaders!

‘Clash of the Pro Bowl Cheerleaders’ is a bracketed tournament that features Pro Bowl cheerleaders battling each other in head-to-head competition.  You, the discriminating Football Weblog readers, determine the winner in each match with your astute voting.  The tournament culminates after five frenzied rounds – each lasting a week – with the crowning of Football Weblog’s 2016 Champion.

Cheerleaders are seeded based on the final regular season standing of the team they represent, and are segregated by conferences so that an AFC representative will meet an NFC counterpart in the championship — a Clash of the Pro Bowl Cheerleaders Super Bowl, if you will.  (Click HERE to see the full bracket.)

The pictures for the first round matches are shown below. Scroll down to vote for your favorite in each of the nine bouts. The cheerleader in each match that garners the most votes advances to the next round. Polls for round one will remain open through Sunday, January 31.

Have fun!
