Free Fantasy Football Draft Board and Player Labels

Online Draft vs Live Draft

Online fantasy football drafts are as ubiquitous to fantasy football as cheat sheets and mock drafts. They are convenient and efficient. An online draft will tell you who was picked, who is still available, and suggest players that may be appropriate to select with each of your upcoming selections. And if you’re not able to decide on a player, the autodraft feature will faithfully pick a player for you. Even if you don’t know the NFL from a divot in the gridiron, an online draft will almost guarantee that every fantasy team in the league will be a contender.

That’s all great if you have a hedonistic slant – someone that constantly seeks easy, short-term gratification. But if you have a more stoic attitude, you may want to consider a live draft. A live draft will lend your league some grit. If team owners want to seriously contend for the title, they will need to come to the draft prepared. And in a live draft, “mommy autodraft” will not be there to bail out little Timmy.

Because a live draft is not online nor automated, you need a way to keep track of players that have been picked and players that are still available. The best way to do this is with an old-school Draft Board and Player Labels.

Happily, there’s still a large demand for Draft Boards and Player Labels, and they are easy to find online. A quick Google search will turn up tons of options. There are jumbo Draft Boards, colorful Draft Boards, glossy Draft Boards, and flashy Draft Boards. Unfortunately, most of these Draft Board sets come with jumbo, colorful, glossy, and flashy price tags as well. If only they weren’t so expensive!

That’s where Football Weblog comes in. We have a Draft Board and Player Labels ready to print in PDF format for no cost. So why not print your own Draft Board and Player Labels for free? It’s easy and fast to do.

Draft Board

Football Weblog’s 24” x 36” PDF Draft Board has room for up to 12 team owners and 18 draft rounds. If you are lucky enough to have a large format plotter/printer, just download the file and print.

If you don’t have access to a big ol’ plotter, you can share the PDF file with a local print shop and have them print it for you. Cost for a 24” x 36” copy should run you less than 5 bucks.

Lastly, if you’re a stingy SOB like me, you can save money by printing our version of the Draft Board that’s split into 8-1/2” x 11” segments. Once printed, just trim the pages as necessary and Scotch Tape them together. (Trimming hint: See Figure 1: Trim guide below. You only need to trim the sheets on the edges marked in red. Once trimmed, assemble the pages together. The pages will slightly overlap. Pages are held in place with Scotch Tape or whatever.)

Whether you print the Draft Board in one large sheet or in segments, make sure to print it full size (i.e., not scaled). Otherwise, you run the risk of the Player Labels not fitting correctly when they are affixed to the Draft Board.

Player Labels

There are Player Labels for the following positions: QB, RB, WR, TE, K, and D/ST. The Player Labels are formatted to print to blank 1” x 2-5/8” address labels. These will need to be purchased. Use Avery 5160 labels (for laser printers) or 8160 labels (for ink-jet printers), or their generic equivalent. These labels are very common and should be easy to find. 30 labels are printed per page, so you’ll need 16 pages of labels to print the entire set of Player Labels. A pack of 25 pages should set you back less than $10.

When printing the labels, make sure they’re loaded correctly in your printer. And, like the Draft Board, make sure the labels are set to print full size. You don’t want to ruin a batch of labels because of carelessness.

Football Weblog’s Player Labels come in two versions. The first version prints the labels in full color. Colors identify the position of each player and are as follows:

QB-Yellow
RB-Blue
WR-Green
TE-Purple
K-Red
D/ST-Gray

If you want to save some cost in ink, the second version prints the labels with only the text in color.
