Malachi Nelson – Get to Know Him

Incredibly, Malachi Nelson becomes the second Adopt-A-Player to join the same college team. Last season’s selection, Raleek Brown, also plays for the USC Trojans, so this marks consecutive seasons where players from the same college team have been chosen.

Nelson possesses excellent off-platform passing ability and playmaking skills, with natural fluidity in his movements. He has arm talent, accuracy, and field vision that make him one of the most natural throwers in the 2023 class of high school recruits. In addition to having a knack for finding open receivers, he can also use his athleticism to extend plays and occasionally run the ball. Nelson is considered one of the top high school quarterbacks in the nation, with the promise to be an impactful starter at the D1 level with potential to eventually be an early-round NFL Draft pick. Welcome to the Football Weblog Adopt-A-Player family, Malachi!

Latest news:

1/6/2024 – Malachi Nelson, former USC quarterback, has committed to Boise State, a decision set to significantly impact the program both on and off the field. Nelson’s official visit to the Broncos proved fruitful, aligning with the family’s criteria of a program offering a clear path to starting, a winning tradition, and personal connections. Despite interest from larger programs like Alabama and Miami, Boise State’s fit, bolstered by relationships with coaches like offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan and head coach Spencer Danielson, secured Nelson’s commitment. With Nelson’s talent and potential to attract other recruits, Boise State anticipates a recruiting boost. Rated the No. 24 overall player and No. 4 quarterback nationally in the 247Sports Transfer Rankings, Nelson brings exceptional throwing ability, football intelligence, and athleticism, promising an exciting season ahead for the Broncos. This information was provided by Greg Biggins of 247Sports. (Biggins, 2024).

8/16/2023 – USC football’s quarterback lineup for the 2023 season is intriguing, with Heisman trophy winner Caleb Williams as the clear starter and top 2023 recruit Malachi Nelson waiting in the wings. Despite Nelson’s recovery from shoulder surgery and limited playing time expectations due to Williams’ excellence, USC fans remain excited about his presence. Head coach Lincoln Riley has noted Nelson’s impressive progress during camp, both physically and mentally, highlighting his determination. Although Nelson practiced at less than 50% physical capacity as a freshman, he’s eager to prove himself. USC is committed to providing Nelson with playing opportunities this season, even though he currently holds the third spot on the depth chart behind Miller Moss.

1/3/2023 – Malachi Nelson, a quarterback from Los Alamitos, California, and a USC signee, was originally set to participate in the Under Armour Next All-America Game but had to withdraw due to a recent surgery. Nelson, a highly-rated prospect, initially committed to Oklahoma but switched to USC when coach Lincoln Riley made the move to USC. He suffered a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder during his junior season, choosing to delay surgery until after his senior year. The recovery period is expected to be three months before he can start throwing and six months for full recovery. Despite the disappointment of USC’s Cotton Bowl loss, Nelson remains excited about the program’s future and plans to start his college journey on January 5, majoring in Communication Management and looking forward to both academic and football experiences.
